8 Shows to Watch If You Binged ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 Too Fast

By | July 6, 2019

This photo of Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) is all us after that brutal Stranger Things 3 finale. I won’t go into spoilers, in case you found this post before your binge, but it was ROUGH. If you have finished, congratulations! You just spent eight hours watching a show you waited over a year and a half to see! Now, you’ll have to wait God knows how long for the next round. Ah, Netflix…

Before you get depressed and start filling up your freezer with Eggos and scrolling Tumblr for endless “Dad Steve” memes, consider making the wait go by faster with the following shows (one has FOURTEEN seasons to get you through the hiatus):

If you’re in it for the kids: Freaks and Geeks

Part of the appeal of Stranger Things is the tight, nerdy bond between tweens Mike, Will, Lucas, Max, Dustin, and Eleven, especially because they’re played by, you know, actual kids. Freaks and Geeks has that same kind of innocence, on top of being freakin’ hilarious. Plus, the elder teens (think Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve) are played by some of your faves. That’s right, James Franco, Seth Rogan, Jason Segel, and Busy Phillips all star as angsty adolescents.

If you’re in it for the nostalgia: Everything Sucks

It really, for lack of a better word, sucks that this Netflix series was canceled after one season. It’s pretty much Stranger Things minus the evil monsters and set in an era you actually remember. Literally, what else could you nineties babies ask for?

If you’re in it for the weird science: Dark

This German Netflix series about a couple of kids that go missing—and somehow turns into an eery time-travel epic—is often compared to Stranger Things for obvious reasons. Season one was a huge hit, and season two just dropped. The good news is that you don’t need to worry about watching too fast, the third and final season is coming sooner than fans think.

If you’re in it for the ~vibes~: Sense8

There’s a reason fans were devastated when Netflix canceled Sense8 after only two seasons. Eight individuals from all over the globe find themselves connected through visions, and are forced to band together as they’re hunted by a mysterious organization. Sounds pretty strange to me. The worst part is that the series ends on a cliffhanger.

Could you imagine if we never got to find out if [spoiler] is really dead?! We’d riot.

If you’re in it for the hype: OITNB

Orange Is the New Black is pretty much the series that put Netflix on the map when it comes to original programming. Like Stranger Things, missing out on the latest season of OITNB is basically asking to be left out of the lunch convo at work. Still, if you have somehow missed any of the adventures inside Litchfield Correctional Institution, you can catch up now before the seventh and final season drops on July 26.

If you’re in it for the Duffer Brothers: Wayward Pines

The twin geniuses who created your favorite show were once writers on the M. Night Shyamalan series Wayward Pines, about an idilic suburban town you can never leave. Yes, it’s as creepy as it sounds.

If you’re in it for Eleven: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy is the original bad b*tch with awesome powers. Instead of fighting Demagorgon, she slays vampires…that is, if she doesn’t let all the high school drama (or a dreamy baddy) get in her way. Sure it sounds cheesy (and the special effects are pretty low budge), but there was no high school girl as badass as Buffy in the nineties. Even now, hardly anyone other than Eleven can measure up.

If you’re in it for the monster hunting: Supernatural

Supernatural is the story of two hot AF brothers who drive across country in a sick ride, killing vampires, werewolves, and whatever monster-of-the-week comes their way. After season four, things take a pretty biblical turn, but the show never loses sight of it’s main draw: hot dudes (with a very pretty car) fighting evil.

With all 14 seasons available to stream on Netflix—and its final season hitting The CW in October—by the time you catch up, Stranger Things 4 will probably be out already.
