LAS VEGAS — Joe Biden struggled to answer whether he could promise the American people that they could keep their doctors under his healthcare proposal.

“Well look, I can’t promise — I can promise them that if in fact the private insurance they have is kept by their company, they keep whoever that plan allows,” the former vice president told the Washington Examiner on Saturday . “That’s all I can promise.”

Biden’s remarks came as he spent much of his trip to Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend railing against the “Medicare for All” programs endorsed by Sens. Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, and Elizabeth Warren.

In contrast to his more progressive rivals vying for the 2020 Democratic Party presidential nomination, Biden has offered a public option plan that would allow the public to buy into Medicare, rather than force all Americans into a government healthcare system.

Earlier this week, Biden invoked the language — which was later dubbed PolitiFact’s 2013 Lie of the Year — of his former boss President Barack Obama when he told an audience members at an AARP forum in Iowa that “if you like your employer-based plan, you can keep it.”
