LOOK, BUT DON’T TOUCH: Position cameras up high inside and outside, so they’re visible but out of arm’s reach to avoid accidentally getting knocked over by large pets.

It’s often during the summer months that pets are left to their own devices while owners are out and about. A home security system can therefore double as an extra pair of eyes to help keep watch over our furry friends. Investing in the correct system for your home ensures you have peace of mind while you’re out for the day.

Uniden national marketing communications manager, Brad Hales has helpful advice on how to set up a home security camera correctly so you can check in on what’s happening at home.

Position cameras correctly. Setting up a DIY home security system can be easily done without the need to call in additional help. However, making sure cameras are placed in the correct position makes all the difference when you want to view and capture every important angle. A camera being used to monitor pets should be positioned near key areas, such as food and water bowls or sleeping zones.

Make sure to invest in a camera that can be used indoors and outdoors.

Place cameras out of reach. Placing a camera where it can be easily accessed means it may be at risk of accidental damage by inquisitive pets. Position the camera up high so it’s visible, but out of arm’s reach to avoid accidentally getting knocked over by larger animals.

The Uniden App Cam Solo+ is a wire-free rechargeable camera and can be moved easily to monitor indoor and outdoor locations. A wire-free solution means the camera doesn’t require any cables or access to a power source, allowing it to be placed anywhere your pets frequent the most. The majority of wire-free camera solutions can have a multiple camera setup to monitor different areas at once, providing pet owners flexibility to keep watch at all angles.

Protect outdoor-only animals. For those with outdoor-only pets, investing in a spotlight camera can act as a deterrent to any predators such as foxes. A spotlight and camera in one can improve night vision by up to 10 metres, enabling critical details to be captured if an incident occurs at night. A spotlight camera also acts as a deterrent to would-be thieves.

Extend viewing on large properties. For those living on large properties or acreage, there may be many areas that normally go unwatched. A wire-free camera using 4G SIM-based connectivity is an ideal solution to view areas where Wi-Fi isn’t available. A 4G wire-free camera doesn’t rely on Wi-Fi connection and is a perfect solution to keep an eye on your property, extending to horses and livestock in the paddock.
