Arnold Schwarzenegger and His Son Joseph Baena Shared a Workout Selfie From Gold’s Gym

By | May 23, 2021

Not long after Arnold Schwarzenegger shared a clip of his workout and expressed how happy he is to be able to get back into his routine at Gold’s Gym, his son Joseph Baena posted a photo of the two of them mid-workout to Instagram.

Both Gold’s regulars, the pair frequently go to the gym together, and Baena has previously referred to his dad as the “best training partner in the world.” He also has a habit of recreating Schwarzenegger’s famous flexing poses from his days as an award-winning bodybuilder.

“This selfie was taken moments before my dad suggested I do ‘forced reps’ for the rest of the workout,” Baena wrote in the caption. “You have to go all out and absolutely NO cheating when you train with him, so you know I’m going to be hurting tomorrow. Overloading on the rows, bench press, pull downs, etc… thankfully my studly training partner helped me get every last rep. This is another great approach to training and a fantastic way to build size and strength! Try it out with your training partner 💪”

While there are definitely benefits to forced reps, it should be said that they are an advanced form of exercise which you should definitely not be doing if you’re a relative newcomer to the gym, or if you are training without a partner.

“Basically, your partner is “helping’ you with the load on a few reps so you can drive to muscle failure a bit more and push more metabolic damage in the muscle—which could lead to more growth,” explains Men’s Health fitness director Ebenezer Samuel C.S.C.S.

“The better option or everyday equivalent is the dropset,” he continues. “Just do as many reps as you can with a weight, then pick up a lighter weight and pile on a few more reps.”
