Bad News For Smokers

By | April 22, 2020

There is no question in our minds about smoking. We advise our patients to not smoke and if they already are smokers we advise them to quit. Unfortunately even if you were to quit today the after effects will linger. Heavy smoking increases your risk of having a cardiovascular event (heart attack, stroke, heart failure or death.)

If you were a heavy smoker and were to quit smoking today your risk of having a severe cardiovascular event are less than someone who is still smoking. However, compared to people who have never smoked your risk remains elevated for another 15 years. Sorry but this is the way it is. Smoking is a dangerous habit.
