Broadway and Hollywood stars are reacting with grief and warnings of caution Monday morning after Nick Cordero, the Broadway actor known for roles in Waitress, Rock of Ages and more, died of complications from Covid-19 Sunday.

KEY FACTS

Cordero was admitted into intensive care for pneumonia and shortage of breath in March, according to his wife, Amanda Kloots; throughout his 13-week hospitalization the family shared details of Cordero’s struggles publicly, including a worsening of the disease in April, when his leg was amputated because of lack of blood flow, according to People.

Kloots had started a GoFundMe to help pay for Cordero’s medical bills; with his death, the fundraiser has been repurposed as a memorial with Hamilton playwright Lin Manuel-Miranda encouraging people to donate:

“Devastating. What a loss, what a light. Whole heart with Amanda and his family tonight,” Miranda wrote on Twitter Sunday.

“Incredibly sad news,” tweeted Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson about Cordero’s death, “Can we please do what we need to do as a country to fight this virus together?”

“Nick Cordero fought as hard as he could for 90 days,” said Zach Braff. “Wear a mask.”

The West Wing’s Bradley Whitford echoed Braff’s sentiment: “Please wear a mask. It has the power to prevent unspeakable suffering and sorrow.”
