If your toilet bowl is getting a little gross, you don’t just want to go at it with a toilet scrubber and harsh chemicals. While these will get the filthiest of household spaces clean, you will also be flushing and inhaling ingredients that may not be the best for you or the environment.

That’s where the below DIY toilet bowl cleaner bomb recipe comes in! It’s super easy to make, contains three natural ingredients, and is also more economical than some conventional cleaning products. Why not give it a try?

Making Your Own DIY Toilet Bowl Cleaner Bomb

To make a bath bomb, all you need are baking soda and citric acid as a powder, and hydrogen peroxide. You can find these at most any household goods store or online.

Baking soda and citric acid will do most of the cleaning. Baking soda is a base, while citric acid is an acid. When these two are dissolved into a solution, they react against each other and the filth on surfaces they come in contact with. Hydrogen peroxide is another active agent, but as you’ll see, we’re adding so little of it that it won’t make that much of a difference.

Here’s how to create your toilet bombs.

  • Add 1 cup of baking soda and 1/4 cup of citric acid into a mixing bowl – these dry ingredients aren’t reacting at this point because their particles are dry and separate.
  • Add a few drops of hydrogen peroxide and mix.
  • When combined, add a few more drops of hydrogen peroxide.
  • Repeat until you have a mixture like moist sand – if it gets too wet, add more baking soda and citric acid at the same ratio as before.
  • Add any essential oil that you would like, around 20 drops or so should work.
  • With any small scoop, make small balls and place them on a paper-lined cookie sheet.
  • Spray gently with hydrogen peroxide in a glass spray bottle – this will help them to dry quickly and hold their shape.
  • Allow a drying time of 4 to 6 hours.

Using each bomb is simple! Before scrubbing your toilet bowl, toss a couple of your cleaning bombs first. When they hit water they will foam gently and release any filth they come into contact with. After a couple of minutes, begin scrubbing. You can toss a few in at the end of each day between cleaning to help keep the toilet clean and smelling fresh.

As easy to make as they are effective, we think you can succeed with this simple recipe your very first try.
