Emily Blunt Shoots Down Fantastic Four Casting Rumors

By | May 12, 2021

Emily Blunt is the bearer of bad news for Marvel Cinematic Universe fans. It doesn’t look like she or her husband, John Krasinski will be joining the cast of the Fantastic Four.

On Wednesday, Blunt premiered on The Howard Stern Show and debunked any fans’ future hopes of her becoming Invisible Woman in the MCU’s reboot. “No, that is fan casting, no one has received a phone call,” Blunt said “It’s just people saying, ‘Wouldn’t that be great?’ and that’s it.”

The actress further explained that playing a superhero is just not in the cards for her, adding that she doesn’t know “if superhero movies are for me. They’re not up my alley. I don’t like them. I really don’t.”

This is not the first time Blunt has turned down a superhero role. Some fans might remember the actress being offered the role of Black Widow in Iron Man 2 before Scarlett Johansson was eventually cast. Blunt was, in fact, the producer’s first choice, but due to some contract conflicts with Gulliver’s Travels, she had to decline. And, since then, the A Quiet Place actress hasn’t been eager to play a superhero.

When asked by Stern if playing superhero roles are beneath her, Blunt was quick to shut the notion down, adding that she would’ve played Black Widow if the opportunity was available. “I love Iron Man and when I got offered Black Widow, I was obsessed with Iron Man,” she said. I wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr.—it would’ve been amazing.”

And, while Blunt says she won’t be in the Fantastic Four reboot, she may be in a superhero movie or TV show in the future: “It would just have to be something so cool and a really cool character, and then I’d be interested.”
