How to Watch the CrossFit Open 20.5 Announcement

The 2020 CrossFit Open has featured some truly inspired challenges for its participants, featuring some of the smartest workouts we’ve seen from the sport and the first time single-leg squats (a.k.a. pistol squats) were included in an Open WOD. Now, the competition heads into its final leg this week with the 20.5 workout.

If you’re just finding out about the Open, you’ll need to understand the event’s format. Every Thursday over the course of five weeks, specific WODs are announced around the world. Anyone is invited to perform the workout and record their score, with their marks due the following Monday. (If you want more details, check out this helpful video.)

If you’re itching to see the 20.5 workout the moment it’s announced, you’ll be able to stream live events this Thursday, November 7, from gyms in Boston and France, where top-level athletes will match up in head-to-head competition. Morning Chalk Up reports that Reebok CrossFit One will host the English-language event, with two-time World’s Fittest Woman Annie Thorisdottir and men’s standout Patrick Vellner putting 20.5 to the test shortly after the announcement at 8 p.m. EST (pre-show kicks off at 7:35 p.m.). You can watch that directly on Reebok’s site, or on the official Games page.

If you want to take in even more world-class Open action (and/or you’re a Francophile), a French broadcast will be available from CrossFit Castelnau-le-lez, presented by French Throwdown on its YouTube and Facebook pages. There, French standouts Willy Georges and Streat Hoerner will compete to be the best at whatever 20.5 has to offer. Give them a watch, because they’ll be working out at 2 a.m. French local time.

Good luck to everyone taking on the Open at their home box with competitive aspirations—but remember, if you want to try out any of the WODs on your own outside of the framework of the competition, you need to be focused on safety. We’ve followed the last two workouts, 20.3 and 20.4, with some words of wisdom for the casual CrossFitter. We’ll do the same with 20.5 Get ready to finish strong.
