New venture aims to shake up fitness industry

When Dubliner Ben Walker introduced a bold new idea to a cluttered Toronto fitness landscape, little did he realise how far ahead of the curve he would be.

In this time of Covid-19, with people nervous about returning to gyms, Walker’s ‘Anywhere Fitness’ could become an industry game-changer.

Now back in his hometown, he is busy recreating the success he enjoyed in Canada.

With personal trainers and gym staff facing uncertain futures, he is looking to hire a team for online sessions and home visits.

Walker explained to Fitter Happier: “I moved over to Toronto quite a while ago, completed my university studies there and went into the fitnessindustry.

“Generally you have to pay for a 12-month commitment at gyms and then separately for personal training and clinical services.

“I saw a gap there, where to have someone come over to to your apartment or condo would save you time, in terms of the commute, and money.

“I set up the business and it became very popular, so we branched into Montreal and Vancouver, and built up a big team of 30 or 40 of us.

“Now I want to create the same concept here in Dublin, except with a smaller team.

“At this moment, people are wary of spending money because of the coronavirus. Also, people have gotten into the mentality of doing things at home.

“Over the past six months we have become disciplined to not go out to public places.

“There are three of us already and we are really getting traction, starting to grow.

“What we are trying to do is simplify the fitness industry, to make it cost effective for people who want to get fit.”

What Walker set up in Toronto has now emerged as a solution for people who want to stay fit during this time of Covid-19 restrictions.
