Work is well under way on Bathurst’s new CBD medical centre

The Bathurst City Centre plaza will become the home of Macquarie Family Medical Centre, and according to the manager of the shopping centre, Ivan Christian, work is already under way.

The medical centre will occupy a 604 square metre space next to Pharmacy 4 Less, which itself is a new addition to Bathurst City Centre.

“We are very pleased to be able to deliver a new medical service for the Bathurst community, with works on track for it to open early next year,” Mr Christian said.

“Excitingly, the medical centre will connect directly to the adjacent pharmacy, further increasing customer convenience at Bathurst City Centre.”

Among the staff at the medical centre will be Dr Rachel Jack, who has returned to Bathurst after spending the bulk of her medical career working in western Sydney.

“The location’s excellent,” Dr Jack told the Western Advocate in August.

“It can be difficult to maintain permanent staff in Bathurst, but we should be able to get things like registrars and overseas-trained doctors.”

According to the plans lodged with council, the front portion of the medical centre will have a good-sized patient waiting area in front of reception, with a dedicated kids play area.

A corridor behind reception will lead to the five consult rooms.

There is also a two-bay treatment room and a separate procedure room.

The floor plan indicates the medical centre will have its own entry to the pharmacy.

A website has been created for Macquarie Family Medical Centre, but currently offers very little information.

Once open, the facility will become the fifth CBD medical centre, joining George Street Medical Practice, Busby Medical Practice, Russell Street Medical Centre and Loxley House Family Practice.

Three medical centres are located outside the CBD and there are other specialist facilities throughout Bathurst.

When she spoke to the Western Advocate, Dr Jack said one of the benefits of Bathurst is that there are other facilities that can support the additional needs of clients who attend the medical centre.
