It worked well at first. I was on 1 mg as needed after being diagnosed with M.S. I built a tolerance very quickly even though I was only taking 1 pill 2-3 days a week. Soon I needed 2 at a time, then 3 at a time just to slightly calm my anxiety and panic attack, not fully taking it away (at this time I had been on them approximately a year and a half). Even the first day that I started taking Ativan took 20-30 minutes to feel the effect. Anyone who has severe anxiety or panic attacks knows that is an unbearable amount of time to feel relief. I am now on 1 mg Xanax, which is a God send.

I used this as an "abort" pill at first when I felt a panic attack coming on, at .5 mg as needed. However I became tolerant of that dose and was then prescribed 1 mg twice a day. Incredibly addicting, so much so that I felt the need to take 2 or 3 mg just to fall asleep at night. When I wouldn't take one I would have a panic attack. ALSO: put me to sleep. Eventually I made sure that I did not have any more remaining refills and basically holed myself up for a week or so, with no possible triggers for a panic attack, and cut it off cold turkey. Again, can't stress how addictive this pill is.
