‘A dose of hope’: Biden implores public to get the vaccine during joint address

President Joe Biden urged the public to get vaccinated during his address to a joint session of Congress Wednesday evening, quoting a nurse who called each shot of the COVID-19 vaccine a “dose of hope.”

“Everyone over the age of 16, everyone — is now eligible and can get vaccinated right away. So get vaccinated now,” Biden said.

Biden recounted a visit he made to a mass vaccination site in Glendale, Arizona.

“I asked a nurse what it’s like,” Biden said. “She looked and said every shot feels like a dose of hope.”

Biden heavily touted the increase in vaccinations since his administration began, noting that less than 1% of seniors had been fully vaccinated when he entered office in January. Today, that stands at almost 70%. About 82% of seniors have received at least one dose.

He also stated that “more than half of all adults in America have gotten at least one shot.” Over 54% of those age 18 and over have received at least one dose, and almost 4 in 10 are fully vaccinated.

When Biden was inaugurated, about 17 million doses had been administered. That number has risen to over 234 million.
